Memphis Music Scene(R.I.P.)
So, as I have stated before, and if you listen to the songs I post, you know I like my music heavy with metal. What exactly does that mean for me? The ability to see live shows is very limited. It is already a super small community in itself, and living in Memphis, well lets just say I wont be throwing down to soul music. Though I enjoy the rich music the Memphis does have, it really doss hinder my ability to enjoy the music I love. The one, main sanctuary that Metalcore listeners had to rock out was the New Daisy. However, the major booking company for the New Daisy, Won't look back Booking, closed its books this past month. What does that mean for me? Well, it is pretty obvious. Aside from three or so more booked shows, there really is no plan is to what will happen next. That mixed with me missing two concerts do to work, and other venues lack of advertisement has really left the music scene dry. There are a few other venues, as I just noted, but they are small, hidden, not popular, and only get a good metal show every now and again. If you were hoping for a post that lead to some enlightenment, there is non today. I am literally only here to complain today because the music scene for my genre has been one of my biggest escapes from life. When at a show, for 5 or 6 hours, there is nothing else going on in the world but 300 people who don't know each other have some already strong bond built between one another for just simply being there. I am going to miss it, and hope that someone will step in to fill their shoes, but no one has been able to fill them like they have.

Corey,
ReplyDeleteThis post is filled with insight. While I do not listen to heavy metal music, your words speak to the power of a passion creating a sense of community among people who now are pushed to the fringes of the music scene. I wonder if Dean Deyo could be of any help. This post would make excellent content for a letter to the editor.

A Hardcore mosh pit is like a regular mosh pit, the difference being with the intent to hurt people. You swing wildly, out of passion for the music being played. You could compare it to those people who "lose" themselves to God while in church. But one cool thing is that while this is going on, if you are nocked down, people will surround you so you don't get stepped on, and you are helped up almost instantly. Everyone is a friend.
ReplyDeleteLet me correct myself. Not with the intent to hurt people, but with what you are doing, it seems to be one large MMA match. Some people do have that intent, but they are quickly removed.
ReplyDeleteSPOM was the shit.
